SHAA Convention - Speech and Hearing Association of Alabama
Convention 2012, known this year as “iSHAA” is fast approaching. Join us March 1-2, 2012 at The Birmingham Mariott on Highway 280. Our theme will focus on how current mainstream technology is influencing our profession—how it helps us to connect, communicate, and collaborate with one another and with the individuals we serve. While I am not the most technologically savvy individual, it is quite apparent to me that we live in a very “iCentered” society these days. “iDevices” are everywhere—iPod, iPad, iTunes, iPhones. So, why not “iSHAA”? This year at our 2012 Convention we are embracing this “iRevolution” with our Convention theme, many of our speaker topics, and with some fun new ways to stay connected with what is happening with SHAA. Our new website is a perfect example of this!
I am excited that many of our speakers are tying the use of these everyday technologies into their presentations. In addition, we are fortunate to have some specific sessions on using technology and “Apps” across our profession. Our luncheon on Friday will feature a national speaker on technology and allow us to receive continuing education hours as well. We have some hands-on CEU sessions allowing participants to gain CE credit while working with specific AAC devices and technology in audiology. And, of course, we want to embrace the social media culture and utilize facebook, twitter, and the SHAA website to make iSHAA 2012 a success!
